We will start our journey in Madrid and take the road to Soria towards the Rioja wine area. Then we take a small part of the road to Santiago, visiting villages like Arnedo, Calahorra and Logroño.
We go further north towards Bilbao, famous for its Guggenheim museum, designed by Frank Gehri. Only the building itself is a must to be seen. The biggest inside market from Europe is called Mercado de la Ribera and lies in Bilbao. It is a very traditional market and worth a visit.
After Bilbao we will go to Santander and take the road to Los Picos de Europa. Picos is one of the best national parks. It is also big, about 64.660 hectares.
Now we will drive to the coast to visit some villages like San Vicente and later the city of Oviedo, which itself is a museum.
After León we will go to Salamanca. Salamanca is a lively city and an ideal place to go for tapas. See rout 1 for more information.
If you still have time go and visit Toledo, which is situated close to Madrid.
