We start in Madrid and go to Ávila, the highest capital of province in Spain. It is a beautiful middle age city with impressive city walls. Salamanca is known as the centre of archuitecture during the renaissance period.
The main square, the ‘Plaza Mayor’ is one of the biggest squares in Spain. Because of the large amount of students it is a very lively city. When you drive around Salamanca do not miss La Alberca, the most beautiful village of Spain.
We cross the border and drive into Portugal for a visit to Guarda. From Guardo we go to Porto, main centre of wine commerce, along the Douro river. The old city centre has a romantic flair and interesting buildings. We take the coastal road to the South where we visit villages like Aveiro, Mira and Figuera da Foz. We make also a stop in Nazaré, a fishing village where we can visit the fish market and eat fresh fish in the same harbour.
We go back to Spain, but not before we have stopped in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. Once in Spain we should stop in Seville, which is a beautiful city in the heart of Andalusia. From Seville we can continue towards Malaga (2h hours) or Madrid (6 hours).
